Julia Harrington Duff is elected to the Boston School Committee.

The first Irish-American woman elected to the Boston School Committee, she is a former teacher and member of a political family, her campaign slogan is, “Boston schools for Boston girls.” Duff subsequently accuses the Protestant “reformers” on the School Committee of being anti-Catholic and persuades the Democratic City Committee to back slates of Catholic “anti-reform” candidates for the School Committee.
